COVID Safety Plan and Reopening Guide

RJH Fitness Society COVID-19 Safety Plan
Last Updated: August 29, 2021

Approach to Safe Reopening

The following document outlines the RJH Fitness Society’s approach to the safe reopening of the RJH Fitness Centre in accordance with the Provincial Restart Plan, Provincial Health Officer (PHO), Worksafe BC Guidelines (Worksafe BC Guidelines) and Island Health Guidelines (Island Health Guidelines).

Facility Operations

The RJH Fitness Centre is an access-controlled facility located in the RJH Patient Care Centre. Access will only be permitted to those individuals who have signed up for a 2021/22 membership.

The maximum capacity in the gym at any given time will be six people. If a person arrives at the gym and there are already six people inside, they must wait for a person to leave before they are able to enter.

Gym use will be limited to a maximum of one hour intervals to allow for other users to gain access.

Members must sign-in on the whiteboard to indicate their time of arrival so other members can anticipate a time to come back when facility might not be at maximum capacity. All members must sign out when they leave the gym.

Per PHO guidelines, gym members must maintain physical distance of at least two metres between them and another user when using the gym while exercising.

In accordance with the the Provincial Health Officer orders, masks must be worn in indoor public settings for all people 12 and older; however, masks are not required while on equipment or at a weight station.

Gym members MUST wipe off ALL of their equipment between use, including wiping off free weights, bands, kettle bells, benches, and any surface area they have touched. Sani wipes are provided on walls around the Fitness Centre.

The drinking fountain on the water dispenser will not be in use; however, the water bottle filling function will be operational for people to fill their own bottles.

Access to the facility will be through the PCC hallway only. A sign-up board will be provided, either on the door itself, or near the entrance of the gym for members to sign-in for their session.

The gym access through the female change room will not be permitted.

Members are instructed to wash their hands before and after entering the fitness centre.

Members must ensure used tissues and disinfectant wipes are properly disposed of.

Members should NOT wear work attire or scrubs when working out in the facility.

It is requested that members limit the number of belongings they bring into the facility. Personal items should be stored in the cubby storage area near the door and storage area must be wiped down after use.

Spot Checks

RJH Fitness Centre Board members will be conducting sporadic spot checks throughout the week to ensure people are adhering to the guidelines.

Safe Cleaning Procedure

It is the responsibility of all RJH FS members to maintain a clean and safe environment within the Fitness Centre.

Acciona will be operating under an enhanced cleaning protocol to ensure that all surfaces are fully cleaned and sanitized on a daily basis.

In addition, gym members using the equipment will be required to wipe down all of the equipment used or surfaces touched with provided wipes (Our Certainty Disinfectant Wipes are designed to combat germs, viruses and fungi found on all hard, non-porous surfaces).
